On March 17, 2024, at approximately 5:10 a.m., Dallas 9-1-1 received a call from the Grand Prairie Police Department advising a woman came into their station and said she had shot another woman in Dallas.

The preliminary investigation determined the suspect, 30-year-old Kelsie Miles, provided officers with an address in the 4700 block of Colwick Avenue.

Officers responded to the address, and after receiving no response from anyone inside and having reason to believe someone may need immediate medical help, the officers forced entry into the home. Once inside, officers located 80-year-old Betty Hearn on the floor, shot.  Dallas Fire Rescue responded, and Hearn died at the scene.

Miles was transported to Dallas Police Headquarters by Grand Prairie Police and has been charged with one count of Murder and taken to the Dallas County Jail.
