Video: Jay Z’s Team Roc Hires Attorney, Alex Spiro, To Defend Wisconsin Man Wrongfully Arrested At Applebee’s While Holding His Baby

An investigation is underway after a video of Kenosha police arresting the wrong man with his child in his arms went viral.

The incident occurred back on July 20, when officers arrested Jermelle English Jr., at an Applebee’s near 75th Street and Green Bay Road.

Authorities believed English was part of a hit and run after they were given a description of the suspect and said they were headed towards Applebee’s.

When officers approached English he told them multiple times that he was not involved and didn’t know what they were talking about. He also was with a woman and holding his 1 year old child in his arms at the time.

The video showed officer attempting to pull the baby from English’s arms and detain him. It also showed officers using physical force on English after removing the baby from his arms.

Although authorities later learned that English was not the suspect, and arrested the actual suspect in the restroom, English was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting and obstructing an officer. The female he was with was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting and obstructing an officer along with possession of marijuana.

Since this incident has gone viral Jay Z’s Team Roc has stepped in and hired attorney Alex Spiro to get all charges in this case dropped.

Team ROC’s managing director, Dania Diaz, released a statement saying, “The reckless arrest of Jermelle English Jr. and the careless endangerment of his infant child by the Kenosha Police Department is an absolute travesty. The Team ROC team is here to support Jermelle and his family through this traumatic experience, demand justice and hold the Kenosha police officers accountable.”

Spiro will also be working on a civil lawsuit against those parties involved in the mistaken arrest.

The Kenosha police department spokesperson later released a statement saying, “The Kenosha Police Department has an internal process in place to review our officer’s use of force that is more robust than what the state requires. We were aware of the incident immediately as a result of that process and started a review of it. Currently it is under investigation. The investigation when complete will be comprehensive and dictate whether the officers acted appropriately or not and if any disciplinary action or additional training is deemed necessary.”
