Video: Confusion Erupts At Grocery Store Dumpster Following Fake Post About ‘Free Food’ After Power Outages

Over 250 people fought over thrown out food in trash bins subsequent to a power outage last week at an H-E-B grocery store in Texas.

“We had over 250 people fighting in the dumpsters because someone posted ‘Free Food!’ This is not free food,” stated Travis County Constable George Morales III in a statement on Facebook.

Morales and the Austin grocery store told people not to consume any of the food taken from the dumpsters.

“The food is rotten and spoiled, and is unsafe to eat,” Morales wrote.

Last week, a deadly ice storm went across Texas causing power loss to 400,000 residences and businesses.

Still, on Sunday morning, at least 66,000 Texans were without electricity.

“Due to a sustained power outage, the store was unable to keep certain perishable foods at proper temperatures,” H-E-B noted in a statement.

“To adhere to strict food quality and safety standards, we are required to dispose of certain perishable foods when they are not properly temperature controlled. This prevents us from donating the items to food pantries and food banks.”

As false reports of the free food giveaway continued, roads were filled with traffic and law enforcement had to go to the scene, Morales said.

On Saturday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared an ice storm disaster that included Travis County.
