NEW ORLEANS — Surveillance video reveals the tense moments leading up to a fatal shooting during an armed robbery at a convenience store in New Orleans East on Tuesday evening. The suspects, identified as 16-year-old Cecil Batiz and 18-year-old Teony Juarez, entered the store armed and demanded cash. After complying, the store employee retrieved his firearm and fired at the suspects, resulting in Batiz’s death and Juarez being wounded. Juarez has been charged with multiple offenses, while the employee has not been charged. The investigation is ongoing.

They were leaving the store he could’ve shoot him but he didn’t. You could’ve made that money back but you can’t give back his life. This a lawful shooting. Armed suspect, unknown intentions with the firearm. Guy clearly didn’t know if he was leaving the store or not. Just because his back is turned doesn’t negate the fact he was pointing a firearm in the guys face moments earlier. Your life could still be in danger, all he had to do is turn around and decide to shoot. If he articulated that he feared the guy was reaching for the gun after the first initial shooting, this would make the second shooting lawful as well. And for y’all saying he could have made the money back.. tell theses young kids they can go make money with a job and stop putting themselves in this kind of danger. 🤷🏾♂️
