7-year-old Khalilah Burgess, of Columbus, Georgia, has passed away after experiencing complications related to the flu, her family says.
Last Saturday, Khalilah had awaken with a fever. Then, on Tuesday things got worse after her daughter had taken a bath and said she was having difficulty breathing, her mother reported.
Afterwards, authorities were called.
“They got here really fast, but honestly…before they got here, I just knew that she had already left. And her birthday was on Halloween. She had just turned seven,” stated Khalilah’s mother, Anyanna Burgess.
Health officials have noted that it is essential that children are vaccinated against the flu and other respiratory sicknesses. Khalilah had not been vaccinated.
Additionally, the child’s relatives say that parents should be CPR certified to help prevent incidences like this from occurring.
