65-year-old Yaser Abdel Said has been given a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. This comes after he was found guilty of capital murder in the killings of his daughters, Amina, 18, and Sarah, 17. He is accused of being upset that the girls were dating outside of their religion.
On January 1, 2008, Sarah had called 911, close to 7:30 p.m., stating that her father had shot her. Authorities in Irving, Texas, tried to locate her and her sister. Then, someone from Omni Mandalay Hotel in Las Colinas called police. A worker had discovered an orange taxi with the lights and engine off, and two girls were found unconscious in the vehicle that was on the hotel’s property.
When Irving officers arrived to the scene, the sisters had been found fatally shot, and no keys were in the taxi.
In the 911 call, Sarah is said to have referred to her father as the assailant in her last dying breaths.
For over 12 years, Yaser Said has been on the run from law enforcement. In August 2020, he was captured in Justin, Texas.
After a six day trial took place and a three-hour deliberation, a Dallas County Jury decided upon a guilty verdict.
“I’m not scared of you anymore. You took my life. All in one day. You will never break me down again. You are a prisoner, a murderer, the devil,” the girls’ mother stated in court.
