On Tuesday, detectives discovered a woman’s torso, with no head attached, packed into a freezer. It had been put into a power saw and pieces of flesh could be observed on the blade, authorities say.

Officers had searched a man’s residence in the Ninth Ward section of New Orleans. They had been investigating a case of a woman who was missing.

34-year-old Benjamin Beale was taken into custody for obstruction of justice, drugs, and weapons offenses.

Beale hasn’t been charged with murder or any other crime in the death of the victim, 36-year-old Julia Dardar.

Dardar’s estranged husband had reported her missing on December 23 after he said she had mental and drug problems and had moved in with Beale.

However, Beale told police that he hadn’t seen the woman and gave two different dates of the last time he had. He said that she was suicidal and had left. However, he didn’t contact authorities because he had misplaced his cellphone.

Six days later, authorities searched his property and found a padlocked bus, that had extension cords that provided power to a deep freezer There, they discovered Dardar’s remains, the saw, and other evidence.
