39-year-old Jessica Kurczewski, of Wisconsin, was convicted in the death of a woman she was taking care of. Kurczewski was given a life sentence in prison and a chance of parole in 40 years.

In 2023, she was found guilty of first- degree intentional homicide and two counts of felony theft for the 2018 death of Lynn Hernan.

Prosecutors noted that Kurczewski fatally poisoned Hernan prior to staging the scene to look like a suicide. Hernan was discovered in a recliner in her living room with crushed pills on her chest.

Kurczewski told authorities that Hernan had been in a lot of pain and was suicidal. However, detectives found Kurczewski had really been stealing from the woman. It is noted that Kurczewski stole $290,210.06 prior to and subsequent to Hernan’s death. The woman only had $88 in her account after she died.

A medical examiner’s report showed that Hernan had consumed a lethal amount of Tetrahydrozoline, a chemical substance found in eye drops. Prosecutors stated that Kurczewski put six bottles of Visine into Hernan’s drink prior to leaving her alone to die.

Hernan passed away on Oct. 3, 2018. Kurczewski was taken into custody on July 9, 2019.
