1.1kviews

Terin Stately, a 34 year-old from North Dakota, has been given seven years in prison. This comes after she pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend.

Documents show that the judge gave her 20 years but just seven have to be served while incarcerated after making an agreement with prosecutors. Additionally, Stately will be on supervised probation for five years.

In May 2020, she was charged with one count of murder when her 27 year-old boyfriend, Keanen Poitra, died. She had disclosed to officers, then, that she and Poitra had gotten into a physical fight subsequent to her questioning him about other women and drug abuse.

Stately said that she retrieved a steak knife from the kitchen and “held it up” towards her boyfriend to get him to back away. She said she wasn’t aware that she had actually stabbed him. However, she confessed to throwing the knife away in the trash.

Later, it was found that Stately had cut Poitra’s femoral artery which resulted in him bleeding to death.
