33 year-old Dallas resident, Hannah Dillard, has been given a 12 year sentence in prison for a drunk driving accident.
The 2017 crash in Ellis County ended up with 5 students from SMU being seriously injured.
Dillard was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
On October 22, 2017, Dillard was traveling the wrong direction on I-35. Several people had contacted 911 as she drove from Dallas into Ellis County.
Although Red Oak police attempted to get her to stop, she ultimately crashed head-on with another vehicle. It was carrying the college students.
One of the students suffered a spinal injury, and a fractured ankle, arm, and pelvis. She stated in court that she now has 37 implants in her body.
Subsequent to the accident, it was noted that Dillard had a blood alcohol level of .24, three times the limit.
