Woman Loses $823,000 Insurance Claim After Being Pictured Winning Christmas Tree Throwing Contest
36-year-old Kamila Grabska filed a lawsuit against an insurance company for $823,000.
Now, the Ireland woman’s injury claim has been dismissed after the court saw an image of her being involved in a Christmas-tree-throwing competition.
Because she stated that she sustained back and neck pains from a car wreck, Grabska sued RSA Insurance.
She also said that she wouldn’t be able to work for over five years due to the wreck. Not only that, but Grabska added that she couldn’t carry her children, complete basic chores, or lift heavy objects, and at certain points, couldn’t even get out of the bed.
However, a picture shown in court depicted her throwing a Christmas tree in January 2018. She was one of three people pictured throwing the 5-foot spruce trees at a local tree throwing competition. There, individuals compete to determine who can throw the tree the farthest.
Grabska won the competition.
Just days prior to that, Grabska had told doctors that she was experiencing pains in her spine, back, and neck.
“It is a very large, natural Christmas tree, and it is being thrown by her in a very agile movement. I’m afraid I cannot but conclude the claims were entirely exaggerated,” the judge noted.
The court was also shown a recording of of Grabska from 2023. It showed her playing with a dalmatian in a park for about an hour and a half.
