A woman stated that she was wrongfully arrested and held in custody for nearly two weeks. She has now filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles Police Department.
Bethany Farber said that police thought she was a different person with the same name and was apprehended at L.A. International Airport last April.
Farber was going to Mexico to visit her brother and goddaughter; however, the Transportation Security Administration detained her because of an arrest warrant. It was for the other Bethany Farber in Texas.
“Immediately, all I could think was I’ve never been to Texas,” Farber disclosed.
Farber was held in custody for 13 days without bail.
Farber’s grandmother had a stroke while she was in jail. Her relatives say that she had gotten stressed out when her granddaughter was wrongfully locked up. She passed away a few days after that.
“All this was done because LAPD failed to check the driver’s license, the birth date, the social security number, even the photo booking of the other Bethany Farber. You can see there’s no relation. They look nothing alike,” said Rodney Diggs, Farber’s lawyer.
Farber says that this mistake has caused her anxiety, PTSD, and even the death of her grandmother.
