A California woman has filed a lawsuit against the police department after their K-9 tore open her scalp.
The incident happened on February 10,2020 when Talmika Bates, along with two others were caught shoplifting over $10,000 from an Ulta Beauty Supply.
According to a complaint filed by Bates Tuesday, she says officers allowed their German Shepard, Marco to chew on her head for several minutes before calling him off.
She says she was then transported to an area hospital where they stitched her scalp together and took her to a jail facility.
The incident in which was captured on bodycam shows Bates screaming for help in bushes and asking officers to get the dog.
Officers response was you shouldn’t run from police officers.
Bates and her attorney, Patrick Buelna has since filed a lawsuit.
She says it’s been two years and she still suffers anxiety, migraines and nightmares of the dog chewing on her scalp.
Bates also says she feels ugly and no longer cute. Sometimes finds herself depressed and miserable.
