Woman Files $30 Million Lawsuit After Police Wrongly Use Her Photo On “Wanted” Poster

Eva Lopez, from Queens, is suing the New York Police Department after her picture was used on a “Wanted” poster.

Lopez is looking for $30 million in damages.

As Lopez and her boyfriend were traveling back from Florida, she got a text message from a friend. It was a picture of the poster, stating that Lopez was a thieving escort, court documents note.

“I thought it was something fake. I really couldn’t believe the police would put me on a wanted poster,” she stated.

Lopez ignored the poster until her boss encouraged her to do something. When she contacted a detective, whose information was detailed on the poster, he told her that he already knew it was a problem.

The detective informed her that the actual suspect had a tattoo sleeve, and Lopez doesn’t. Therefore, the “Wanted” posters had already been removed prior to her calling.

However, Lopez states that it had already caused an issue by then. It had been spread on social media, and people still believed she was a thief and a prostitute.

Initially, officers had been looking for an escort who had taken a $13,000 Rolex and credit cards from an Upper Eastside apartment. This came after a man set up services online on Aug. 3, authorities say.

The victim showed police Lopez’s picture, and that’s why they had used it. Lopez has 862,000 Instagram followers, is a fashion influencer, and bartends in Queens.

To add, Lopez’s picture showed her at a friend’s birthday party. She was wearing a hot pink tube top, leggings, and high heel shoes. The poster stated that she was wanted for grand larceny.

Lopez has never been in trouble with police nor has ever worked as an escort. Her attorney thinks that the suspect used Lopez’s pictures off of social media.
