After an argument with a neighbor, a mother of four was fatally shot by a neighbor in Ocala, Florida, on Friday.
At this time, no apprehensions have been made in the killing of Ajike “AJ” Owens.
Reports indicate that the disagreement involved Owens’ children walking on the neighbor’s grass. Since 2021, police have answered to about six calls in regards to the continous disturbances between the neighbors.
It was reported that on Friday, the neighbor threw something at the children, striking one of them. The lawyer for the Owens’ family, Ben Crump, says the object was an iPad. On the other hand, a sheriff stated that it was a pair of skates. The sheriff added that he was told that something was thrown but wasn’t intended to hit the children.
When the oldest child went to tell Owens what had occurred, Owens went to the neighbor’s home. She was then shot through a closed door by the neighbor while trying to retrieve her child’s iPad, Crump said. It is thought that one of the children had left the device in the neighbor’s yard, and the woman took it.
The sheriff’s office is now working to figure out if “stand your ground laws” apply in this matter. This law was put into motion in 2005, stating that deadly force is allowable if one feels that their life is danger.
Owens’ mother says that her daughter was killed right alongside her 9-year-old son. She added that she had no weapons and was posing no threat.
