A Belgian woman fell 100 feet to her death while trying to take selfies on the edge of a cliff.
The incident happened Tuesday near the village of Nadrin in the province of Luxembourg, when Zoe Snoeks,33 was traveling with her husband.
Snoeks’s husband, Joeri Janssen, told authorities he and his wife traveled all the time with their dog. He said Snoeks was taking pictures on the scenic cliff and asked him to watch after the dog.
“I turned to the dogs and told them to wait. When I turned back to Zoe, she was no longer there. She had just vanished. It must have happened in less than five seconds,” he said. “I didn’t see or hear anything. No rustling, no screams or shouts. I looked up and saw only dust. … I called her even though I knew it was hopeless. The chasm was several tens of meters deep.”
Janssen says he immediately contacted authorities but had little network. He claimed authorities didn’t understand him although he spoke a little French.
He said that he then rushed to the nearby Le Belvedere Hotel for help.
Her body was later found by a team of rescuers that included police, firefighters, scuba divers and members of the Groupe de Recherche et d’Intervention en Milieu Perilleux.
