A woman has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing a Kansas City Fire Department paramedic who was attempting to assist her.
According to the Kansas City Police Department, emergency crews were dispatched to 152 Highway and North Oak Trafficway shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, following reports of a woman, later identified as 38-year-old Shanetta Bossell, walking along the highway.
Responding officers located Bossell and subsequently called for EMS to provide further treatment. She was en route to Saint Luke’s Hospital when, around 1:25 a.m., she stabbed 29-year-old KCFD Firefighter/Paramedic Graham Hoffman.
First responders reported that the ambulance had stopped on 152 Highway near Platte Purchase Road while officers and additional firefighters took Bossell into custody. Other crews transported Hoffman to North Kansas City Hospital, and the knife used in the incident was recovered from the ambulance.
Sadly, the Kansas City Fire Department confirmed that the knife had pierced Hoffman’s heart, and he ultimately succumbed to his injuries in the ICU at NKC Hospital.
On Sunday evening, the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Bossell, also a Kansas City resident, has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action as a result of the incident.
Bossell had been arrested the previous Wednesday, April 23, after allegedly biting a Platte City Police Department officer during a separate incident. She was previously charged with assault and resisting arrest.
