Earlier this month, a woman walked into the United States from Mexico through an El Paso crossing and was detained. The method at which she hid a small amount of fentanyl highlights the extreme measures that people are taking to smuggle drugs.

On May 11, 0.006 pounds of fentanyl was seized at the Bridge of the Americas border crossing, U.S. Customs and Border Protection wrote in a statement.

A drug-sniffing canine had signaled that the 40-year-old woman was in possession of something, and a pat-down search was conducted.

When that was over, the woman showed what she was hiding.

“The female voluntarily removed a condom filled with fentanyl pills from her vaginal cavity,” the statement added.

The unnamed woman was handed over to a local law enforcement agency.

Data that has recently reported shows that 107,000 people in the U.S. died of an overdose last year.

This woman’s apprehension by the CBP was one of twenty-five that occurred in one week at El Paso areas of entry.

A 24-year-old man was caught with 24.47 pounds of methamphetamine. After his vehicle was searched and underwent an x-ray scan, 24 bundles were found hidden.

Later that same day, a 23-year-old woman was found with 18 pounds of methamphetamine. Eight bundles were also discovered in the spare tire of the car.

Altogether, on May 11, 19.7 pounds of cocaine was confiscated. A couple of days after that, 39.24 pounds of methamphetamine was seized.

Authorities say that they found several bundles stashed in a car that had come from Mexico.

Reports indicate that all who were apprehended are U.S. citizens.
