Woman Billed $700 For Sitting In ER Waiting Room

1.8kviews

A woman in Atlanta was charged nearly $700 after waiting in the ER and leaving without treatment.

Taylor Davis went to the Emory Decatur Hospital ER for a head injury back in July. After getting fed up with waiting over 7 hours for them to see her, she walked out without treatment. Davis was completely shocked when she later received a bill from the hospital for nearly $700! She says her vitals were never taken, she never saw a doctor, and they never even called her name.

Davis contacted the hospital expecting them to fix the mistake. She was shocked again when they told her that was indeed a correct charge.
She was informed that it was an “emergency room visit fee” or a “facility fee” as it is called in some cases. The fee is usually added to a patient’s total hospital bill, so it can easily go unnoticed.

Davis received an email response from one of the hospital’s patient financial services employee saying, “You get charged before you are seen. Not for being seen.”
