Woman Arrested After Stealing and Dumping Her Boyfriend’s Mother’s Ashes Into Lake Worth
A Fort Worth woman was arrested on Wednesday after she allegedly threw her boyfriend’s mother’s ashes into Lake Worth.
According to police reports, Augustine Gladney, 40, has been charged with Abuse of a Corpse for disposing the ashes of a woman.
The arrest comes two years after Ernest Smith, 38, reported his mother’s urn missing to police. Smith told officers that he believed his girlfriend, Gladney, took his mother’s ashes when she was mad at him. He went on to explain that he overheard Gladney on the phone with her daughter, telling her about what she did with the urn.
Four hours after Smith confronted his girlfriend, she texted him and admitted she’d taken the urn and dumped the ashes into a lake.
Gladney faces up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $4,000 if convicted.
