An investigation has been launched following the unfortunate death of a 62-year-old woman during an overnight “conjugal visit” with her husband at a California prison.

David Brinson, 54, a convicted murderer, is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the murders of four men in 1993. In November 2024, Brinson was granted an unsupervised visit with his wife, Stephanie Dowells, at Mule Creek State Prison in Northern California.

Brinson informed prison officials that his wife had collapsed. Officers immediately initiated lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived to take over. Sadly, Dowells was pronounced dead at the scene.

Todd Riebe, the District Attorney of Amador County, stated to the LA Times that he is awaiting a full report from the prison before making any decisions regarding potential charges.
