Early Friday morning in Georgia, two people were killed and another was critically injured when an employee opened fire inside a Walmart in Covington and at a nearby residence.
Newton County deputies responded to the Walmart Supercenter on Salem Road at around 1:30 a.m., finding the store closed with only employees present.
According to officials, 24-year-old Dwayne Eduh, one of the employees, left the building, obtained a firearm, and returned to shoot and kill another employee. Eduh then shot a second employee outside the Walmart. That individual was taken to the hospital and is currently in critical condition.
Subsequently, authorities reported that Eduh drove about two miles to a home on Emerson Trail, broke in, and fatally shot a woman who was also his coworker.
The sheriff’s office identified the deceased victims as Khalaf Barksdale, 21, and Akeela Clarke, 19. Ryan Bradley, 29, was transported to a nearby hospital and is now in stable condition.
“This was not an active shooter situation,” the sheriff’s office clarified, explaining that “the suspect specifically targeted individuals they knew.”
Eduh was later found and arrested in Aiken, South Carolina.
During a standoff with Aiken County deputies on Interstate 20, Eduh shot himself and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Fortunately, no deputies were hurt.
