A Lancaster police officer was was run over by a suspect during a routine traffic stop Sunday evening.
The officers were conducting a traffic stop near the 1500 block of Dewberry Blvd when the officers started to approach the vehicle and the suspect went into reverse trying to run over the officers. They managed to move out of the way and asked the man to stop. Instead of stopping he put the vehicle in drive and struck one of the officers. The officer managed to shoot at the vehicle and strike the suspect.
The suspect lost control of the vehicle and struck a power pole. Ambulances arrived on the scene taking the suspect and officer to a nearby hospital.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital and the officer is in stable condition.
This case is still under investigation so they still have not released the officer or suspects names at this time.
