Unknown Sickness Spreads Aboard Cruise Ship As 154 People Experience Diarrhea And Vomiting
An unknown gastrointestinal sickness has spread aboard a Hawaii-bound cruise ship, causing about 154 people to become ill as of Saturday.
An investigation is now taking place by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to look into the massive outbreak on the Queen Victoria. This ship is operated by Cunard Cruise Line, a British shipping and cruise line based in Southampton, England.
On Jan. 22, the ship, which is holding 1,824 passengers and 967 crew members, left from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. It is expected to reach Honolulu on Feb. 12.
On Friday, it was noted that 139 people had been infected with the sickness but by Saturday, that number had increased to 154. This includes 129 passengers and 25 crew members that have now been showing symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting.
Cunard Cruise Line has stated that they are now implementing procedures to ensure the “well-being” of the passengers on the ship.
In addition to that, the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program is keeping up with the matter and is evaluating the ship’s response and guidelines.
