An Award-Winning, U.S. video journalist has been killed. Additionally, another journalist was hurt as they both were attacked by Russian forces in Ukraine.
On Sunday, the Kyiv Region authorities released a statement on their website. It read that Russian soldiers shot up the vehicle of Brent Renaud and one other journalist in Irpin. The wounded journalist, Juan Arrendondo, was said to have been taken to a hospital in Kyiv.
Prior to going into surgery, Arrendondo disclosed that he and Renaud had been recording refugees fleeing the location. Then, they were fired upon as they were in the car, nearing a checkpoint. Although the driver had turned to go back, Arrendondo stated that the gunshots continued.
Renaud, 50, was said to be a “talented filmmaker who had contributed to The New York Times over the years.” It is noted that he wasn’t employed by them when he was killed.
Jake Sullivan, White House national security adviser, said that the U.S. will be in discussion with Ukraine to figure out what occurred and afterward “execute appropriate consequences.”
