Due to the ever increasing numbers of employees coming down with coronavirus Tyson decided to close its largest pork plant.
Even though they had already slowed productions down due to over two thousand employees calling in sick, they were linked to the recent rise in the country’s use in COVID-19, Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart called for Tyson to be shut down.
The company will be paying all employees while the factories are closed down, and all 2,800 employees will be asked to take tests later on this week. Depending on the outcome of the test will be the deciding factor on whether or not they will reopen.
Tyson also said they will be closing down another factorie, a pork plane in Indiana, by the end of this week.
Many are aware that this may disrupt the pork supply chain, “The closure has significant ramifications beyond our company.”But officials are happy the cies of thousands have finally been headed. “It hurts when it feels like your pleas to people fall on deaf ears, this isn’t a political issue…. It’s a humanitarian issue.” stated Hart.
A significant reduce on meat supply, seeing as Smithfield Foods is also shut down as of last week.
“It is impossible to keep our grocery stores stocked if our plants are not running, these facilities have disastrous repercussions for many in the supply chain,” stated CEO Kenneth Sullivan.”
