Two Students Bitten By Teacher Over A Jar Of Pickles

Rhonda Rice, a former teacher at Bartow Middle School, in Florida, has been accused of biting two students in relation to a jar of pickles.

Rice has been placed on suspension, transferred to another school, and may be charged.

A two-count battery complaint was filed against Rice. It stated that she saw two students retrieving items from a kitchen/storage section in October. Rice then took a jar of pickles from a shelf that the students believed she was getting for herself.

One of the kids snatched the jar, trying to put it back. Rice then bit him so that he would let it go. The other student also attempted to take the jar, and Rice bit him, too, documents state.

In November, after the students disclosed what had happened, Rice told the school district that she was just playing around. She said that when the students attempted to get the pickle jar from her, she “licked their arms to get them off.”

“What was she thinking? When the school notified us of the incident, we immediately took action. I want charges brought up against her,” stated one of the student’s aunt.

“She needs to be put in jail and learn from her mistakes. She can’t put any part of herself on any child,” the woman continued.

In December, Rice was suspended without pay for three days. As an element of a teacher collective bargaining agreement, an involuntary transfer to another middle school was put into place.

Rice is set for a court hearing on March 31.
