Two severely decomposed people were found dead in the back of an 18-wheeler in Houston on Thursday morning. Authorities believe they were experiencing homelessness and living in the semi-trailer.
Citizens overheard homeless people talking about two bodies in a truck, which led to the citizens contacting the police.
The Houston Police and Fire Department responded to the call and began searching a parking lot with multiple 18-wheelers filled with Purple Heart donations. Crews were unable to find anything initially.
After some time, crews noticed a hole cut into the roof of one of the trucks. The Houston Fire Department brought a ladder to climb on top of the trailer and discovered the bodies below.
Lt. Willkens from the Houston Police Department states, “It appears to be two bodies for sure. I mean, they’ve been there a very long time, so they’re very decomposed; almost look mummies.”.
An employee at the donation center explains that the trailer where the bodies were found was filled to the top with clothes. He continued, “When you jump in there, it’s just like quicksand. You’re going to sink down in there, and you probably couldn’t say nothing. That’s probably why we never heard nobody.”
Investigators are awaiting the medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
