Two People Fatally Shot Outside Cancun Resort

Two men from rival gangs were fatally shot outside a Cancun Hyatt Resort Thursday.
The shooting occurred on the beach near the Hyatt Ziva Cancun, in Puerto Morelos.
According to reports several cartels are fighting for the area’s lucrative retail drug trade, including the Jalisco cartel and the gang allied with the Gulf cartel.

The head prosecutor of Quintana Roo state, Oscar Montes de Oca, said “About 15 people arrived on the beach to assassinate two men who had showed up saying they were the new dealers in the area.”
There was a dispute between the rival gangs before gunfire rang out.
One of the men fled into a hotel for help before dying the other was killed on the beach.
Another person was suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the attack, but authorities could not determine whether that person was a hotel employee or a guest because they were still undergoing medical treatment.
The attackers fled the scene by boat before officers arrived and remain at large.
