Two Ex-Coaches From Prosper ISD Charged After Failure To Report Sexual Assault Allegations Of Students

Two ex- Prosper ISD employees have been charged after failing to report supposed child sexual abuse involving students.

Documents show that Renna Bersosa, 38, and Kasie Ostrom, 43, are both said to have not reported sexual assaults after a student told them that three of her teammates had been sexually assaulted by another teammate off-campus during several sleepovers this summer. Bersosa was the softball coach, and Ostrom was her assistant.

Reports show that two days prior to the start of school, a student and her mother went to speak with Bersosa and Ostrom. That’s when the allegations were disclosed.

Bersosa is said to have told the student that the suspect involved in the supposed sexual assaults was a “good player,” and they didn’t want her to be off the team.

The student reported to authorities that Bersosa told her to take care of the situation herself. She added that the student should tell the suspect that if she doesn’t stop with the sexual assaults, then she would tell the coach.

Ostrom is said to not have spoken during the meeting.

Documents also revealed that the student told a therapist who immediately contacted Child Protective Services. The therapist told authorities that two coaches knew about the allegations.

On Aug. 23, when Bersosa spoke with authorities, she said that she didn’t know that she had to report the matter to a third-party.

When Ostrom was questioned, she said that she was in the meeting but thought that Bersosa was handling the matter. However, she stated that she never followed up with her.

State law makes it mandatory that educators make a report within 48 hours when they have suspicions of possible child abuse or neglect

Both women have been charged with a misdemeanor, Fail to Report Family Code.
