Two Dead After Hostage Situation At Austin Medical Office

Two individuals were found dead in a medical office in the Austin area late Tuesday night after a hostage standoff lasted more than 5 hours, according to police and news reports.
At this time, it is not clear how many people were held hostage or who had taken them against their will.
Police got a call Tuesday afternoon that a man armed with a weapon was inside a medical office in central Austin, according to reports from the TV news station KSAT. On a nearby street, SWAT was negotiating with the gunman into late Tuesday evening, according to on-scene news reporters.
On Twitter, journalist Jody Barr wrote that he heard a “loud explosion” and the sounds of gunshots at the building after officers sent in a robot.
The Austin Police Department later said on Twitter “The Swat Situation has ended; two people have been pronounced dead on the scene.
APD did not respond late Tuesday to phone calls and emails asking for comments. However, they did mention on Twitter that the APD Homicide Unit would be the one to provide further information Wednesday morning.
According to news reporters, the medical office is a branch of the Children’s Medical Group. Following the standoff Tuesday, the website for the doctor’s office has been disabled. Also, a call to the branches office Wednesday morning was not answered.
