Jeffrey Parker, 58, the CEO and general manager of Atlanta transportation provider, MARTA, is deceased.
A representative of the agency stated that Parker committed suicide by stepping in front of a train at the East Lake MARTA Station in Decatur, Georgia. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Friday evening, officials say.
Parker was well-known in the transportation industry, having served in it for 35 years. He held his current leadership position since March of 2018. Parker has been named one of Atlanta’s Most Influential leaders several times. Additionally, he was recognized in 2019 by the Atlanta Chapter Of Women’s Transportation as its “Man Of The Year.”
His last public event was at the start of 2022 when he visited the transit’s authority’s frontline workers.
“I would like to recognize the thousands of MARTA employees who continue to carry us through these tough times,” he had said.
Flags at MARTA headquarters were lowered to half-staff on Saturday.
