The trailer for Ridley Scott’s upcoming movie “Gladiator II” has now been released.
The trailer, which was released on Tuesday, builds suspense for the Roman-era action sequel to Scott’s Oscar-winning hit, which garnered more than $400 million across the world when it was released in 2000.
The upcoming film features Paul Mescal as Lucius, who is the adult son of Connie Nielsen’s character Lucilla from the first movie, going back to Rome as a prisoner. Pedro Pascal plays the role of Marcus Acacius, the general who destroyed Lucius’s adopted homeland, Numidia, causing his enslavement.
The trailer begins with a short synopsis of Lucius’s initial story, saying that he didn’t know where he is from or who his parents are. Eventually, Denzel Washington, who plays Macrinus, a rich arms dealer, is observed telling Lucius, “You will be my instrument.”
Macrinus wants Rome to fall quickly.
The talks between Macrinus and Lucius set the foundation for the introduction of the Colosseum, where the gladiator battles take place.
After many wartime scenes and battles at Colosseum, the trailer ends with an arena battle with Lucius and Acacius in a gladiator showdown.
