A mother in Texas is seeking answers following the tragic suicide of her 11-year-old daughter, Jocelynn Rojo Carranza, who faced persistent bullying related to their family’s immigration status.
Jocelynn, a sixth-grade student at Gainesville Intermediate School, endured months of harassment from peers who taunted her and threatened to alert ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) about her family.
On February 3, after enduring this ongoing bullying, Jocelynn tragically chose to take her own life. She was admitted to an intensive care unit in Dallas, where she battled for five days before passing away on February 8.
Her mother, Marbella Carranza, shared that Jocelynn had informed school officials about the bullying on several occasions, but no actions were taken. Marbella only learned of the bullying after her daughter’s death.
As the family searches for answers, Gainesville ISD has not yet provided any public comment regarding Jocelynn’s heartbreaking death.
