Three white men have been convicted by a jury for the murder of Ahmaud Arbery, a Black man, in Georgia.

The jury deliberated for over 10 hours before handing down the decision against Greg McMichael, son Travis McMichael, and neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan.

All of them will receive at least a life sentence in prison.

In February 2020, Ahmaud, 25, was jogging through the men’s neighborhood, outside of Brunswick. The McMichaels began chasing him in a pickup truck with guns in tow. Bryan began to follow Ahmaud in his own truck, as well. With his cell phone, he recorded Travis McMichael shoot and kill Arbery.

The McMicheals told police they believed that Arbery was a burglar. They said he was shot in self-defense when he had thrown punches and attempted to take Travis McMichael’s weapon.

Travis McMichael was convicted of all charges including malice murder. Gregory McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan were convicted of felony murder and other offenses.

Arbery was in college at the time, and there was no proof that he ever committed crimes in the defendants’ community.
