The shooter who attempted to assassinate ex-President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday has been identified by law enforcement.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, as the assailant who shot at Trump from a rooftop, close to the campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

No other details about Crooks’s motive have been released. However, reports have indicated that he does have a rap sheet in Pennsylvania, where he was raised, in the city of Bethel Park.

The AK-style rifle that Crooks used in the attempted assassination was bought by his father. Additionally, explosive devices were located in his vehicle.

Voting documents depict that Crooks was a registered Republican, but other paperwork showed that he donated $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project (PTP). The PTP partners up with the Democratic political action committee, (ActBlue) to persuade liberals to turn out and vote.

In addition to that, it has been reported that Crooks was among 1,400 students who graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022. That same year, he was given a $500 “star award” from the National Math of Science initiative, as well.

Former classmates of Crooks have expressed that he was “relentlessly” bullied.

On Saturday, Crooks was shot and killed by Secret Service agents as he attempted to assassinate Trump at the rally. Trump had been at the podium giving his speech to a packed audience when Crooks fired multiple shots at him from the rooftop close by. Footage from the scene shows Crooks laying on his stomach, on the rooftop, as he pulled the trigger of his weapon.

Other recordings depicted Trump getting struck by the bullet and quickly grabbing his right ear. He then dropped to the stage as Secret Service agents quickly ran to assist him, covering him with their bodies. Three other people at the rally were shot, and one person died.

After Crooks was killed, Trump was led off the stage by his security detail, to a waiting vehicle which transported him to a local medical facility where he was treated and eventually released.
