The City Of Fort Worth Settles Lawsuit With Jacqueline Craig After Viral Video Shows Officers Using Excessive Force During Arrest

A Black mother filed a civil lawsuit after she and her daughter were taken to the ground and apprehended by a white police officer. This came after the woman had a disagreement with her neighbor.

Now, the Fort Worth, Texas, lawsuit has been settled.

In December 2016, Officer William Martin wrestled Jacqueline Craig and one of her daughters to the ground and pointed a stun gun at them. Jacqueline’s other daughter filmed the occurrence on her cellphone and was also apprehended.

Later, all charges against the three were dropped. However, Martin was suspended for 10 days for violating department guidelines and procedures.

On Friday, reports revealed that the city agreed to $150,000 to settle the lawsuit. It is now pending City Council approval.

As listed in the agreement, the city admits no other wrongdoing, and there aren’t any more requirements of them.

Craig has claimed that the neighbor grabbed and choked her young child after witnessing him litter.

A recording of the arrests was posted to Facebook and was seen over a million times, raising concerns about racism.

“This put a big weight on her. It put a big weight on the city. I hope the settlement is enough for everyone to feel refreshed and ready to move forward,” stated Mayor Pro Tem Gyna Bivens.
