Texas Mother Sentenced to 50 Years In Prison for Leaving Children Alone with Decomposing Brother

On Tuesday a Texas woman was sentenced to 50 years in prison for witnessing the murder of her 8-year-old son and forcing three of her other children to live with his decomposing body.

Gloria Williams, 38, was accused of allowing her abusive boyfriend, Brian Coulter, to kill her son Kendrick Lee in 2020. The sentencing occurred a month after Williams pleaded guilty to two counts of injury related to abuse involving Kendrick and another child.

For more than a year following Kendrick’s death, his three surviving siblings were neglected and living alone in a bug-infested Houston apartment, on the 3500 block of Green Crest Drive, alongside the decaying remains of their brother.

Reports from October 2021 indicated that the eldest sibling, who was 15 at the time, called 911 to report his brother’s death.

When the sheriff’s deputy arrived he discovered the remains in the apartment. The unfurnished unit was filled with soiled carpets and infested with flies and roaches, while the three living children were malnourished and hungry.

Coulter, 34, pleaded not guilty in April to charges of beating Kendrick to death. He was subsequently found guilty of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

After her arrest, Williams relinquished her parental rights to her children. Authorities have stated that the two younger siblings have been adopted, while the eldest has been placed with a foster family.
