Texas Mom Sentenced To Prison For Allowing Boyfriend To Fatally Beat Her 2-Year-Old Daughter For Putting Shoes On The Wrong Way

31-year-old Ashley Marie McAlpine, of Texas, has been sentenced to over 10 years in prison for not preventing her boyfriend from physically harming her 2-year-old daughter. The child was fatally beaten just two days short of her birthday in 2019. This was because she put her shoes on the wrong feet.

On June 7, McAlpine was given a 16-year sentence for not taking the appropriate actions to keep her child, Shannah, safe from her boyfriend, Jadin Nunez.

In March, McAlpine pled guilty to one count of first-degree felony injury to a child in relation to her daughter’s death.

In October 2021, Nunez was found guilty of one count of capital murder of a child under age 10. He was sentenced to life in prion without the chance of parole.

Reports indicate that in September 2019, Nunez hit the child in the face, held her up, and punched her three times in the abdomen before dropping her on the floor. McAlpine told detectives that she picked the child up and took her to a room. Nunez then entered the room and choked the toddler until she was struggling to breathe. The mother told authorities that she pleaded for Nunez to stop.

Close to 2 a.m. the following morning, the child complained of stomach problems and wasn’t breathing correctly. McAlpine put the girl in the shower, and at 3:31 am., Shannah was declared deceased.

After an autopsy found that the toddler died by “blunt force trauma to the abdomen,” Nunez was apprehended two days later.

McAlpine hadn’t faced any charges until December 2020.
