A Marshall Independent School District teacher has been arrested following allegations of inappropriate relations with a student.
The district was made aware on Tuesday, that a teacher at Marshall High School was accused of sending inappropriate texts to a student. The teacher was absent from school on Monday and Tuesday and was subsequently placed on administrative leave.
On Feb. 17, the Marshall Police Department executed a warrant to obtain the student’s cell phone. Evidence gathered from the phone led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Margaret Claire Burris, 23.
She was arrested Saturday morning and charged with one count of improper relationship between educator and student.
The Marshall Police Department has stated that the investigation is still in its early stages and that additional charges may be filed.
