Texas Governor Demands Parents Of Transgender Kids Be Investigated for Abuse If They Seek Gender-Transitioning Care

Texas Governor Greg Abbott wants families and medical professionals to undergo a child abuse investigation. This is if they go along with gender-transitioning procedures for children.

Abbott sent a letter to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) on Tuesday. If doctors and nurses don’t report these circumstances, he wants them and the parents to face consequences.

This comes after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a 13-page statement on Friday. In it, he stated that “procedures and treatments…when performed on children, can legally constitute child abuse.” This is according to Texas Family code.

Now, many district attorneys across the state have expressed their opposition to Governor Abbott’s directives. These include John Creuzot, Dallas County, Jose Garza, Travis County, Joe Gonzalez, Bexar County, Mark Gonzalez, Nueces County, and Brian Middleton, Fort Bend County.

“…these two (Abbott & Paxton) want to irrationally target and restrain children seeking medical assistance. This is un-American,” a letter stated that was from the 5 district attorneys. “…We want to assure our residents with transgender children that they are safe to continue seeking the care their children need. We will not let the governor and attorney general disregard Texas children’s lives in order to score political points.”
