Protesters and counterprotesters had an angry encounter during a Texas drag brunch, held in Roanoke, on Sunday, August 27. People had gathered outside of a family-style event at Anderson Distellery and Grill, in the DFW area.
A viral recording shows the clash between the two groups. This included anti-trans activists with signs stating that the event “sexualized children.” The counterprotesters were observed wearing riot attire and holding firearms.
An organization named, “Protect Texas Kids” had put the protest together. The group noted on Facebook that, “We need to show up in full force and show that the majority of us are against children being involved in these disturbing, sexually explicit shows.”
The owner of the distillery, Jay Anderson, had called for no foul language, sexual content, or erotic behavior, on Facebook, prior to the event. Reports indicate that there were more supporters of the event than protesters. The brunch had been entirely sold out even with the attempts of the anti-trans protesters.
Drag shows are becoming more popular in America. In June, a similar event took place in Dallas, at Mr. Misster, a bar. Then, Christian fascists protested the LGBTQ+ festivities, desiring to take “all the rights away” from the LGBT+ community.
