During an effort conducted by several agencies, 70 missing children were discovered in what is known as “Operation Lost Souls.” The Operation lasted three weeks, and some of the children had experienced being sex trafficked and abused, mentally and physically.
Homeland Security Investigators in El Paso and the Texas Department of Public Safety headed the operation. It began at the end of April and lasted through the middle of May.
The kids were ages 10-17. Although many were found in West Texas, some were found in the DFW metroplex, Colorado, and Mexico. Documents note that many of the children had run away. They have been given counseling and other services for them and their families.
Operation Lost Souls has brought new information to light, and those details are now being investigated.
“HSI is committed to continue working with our law enforcement partners to locate, recover, and help missing children heal. We will ensure that perpetrators are held responsible for these heinous crimes and brought to justice.”
