Texas Attorney General Launches Investigation into School Districts Over Alleged Violations of Girls’ Sports Law

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has formally requested a comprehensive collection of documents from both the Dallas Independent School District and the Irving Independent School District to ensure compliance with state laws prohibiting boys from participating in girls’ sports.

This inquiry was prompted after it was revealed that officials at DISD and IISD may have provided concerning guidance to parents, hinting at a possible unwritten policy that disregards Texas legislation designed to protect women’s sports. In a recorded exchange, Mahoganie Gaston, the LGBT Youth Program Coordinator for DISD, indicated to a parent that a male student could participate in girls’ sports if the parent altered their son’s birth certificate to reflect “female.” She also suggested that the district seeks “loopholes,” expressing a willingness to face imprisonment for defying Texas law. Similarly, Reny Lizardo, the Executive Director of Campus Operations at IISD, informed a parent that a male student could join women’s sports if his birth certificate was amended to show “female.”

Attorney General Paxton remarked, “It is astonishing that school district officials would disregard the rights of female students and compromise the integrity of women’s sports to push a radical transgender agenda. Unfortunately, this appears to be what has occurred here. Any systematic attempt by a school district to circumvent state law and permit biological boys to compete in girls’ sports in Texas will be thoroughly investigated, and my office will take all necessary actions to hold those responsible accountable.”
