A teacher was attacked by an 8th grade student, and the incident was recorded. Reports indicate that the student was angry because the teacher had taken his phone. Now, the child has been apprehended and taken into custody. He has been charged with first-degree aggravated assault of a public servant, a felony.

On Wednesday, other students in the classroom, at Bowie Middle School, in Odessa, Texas, had recorded the occurrence and uploaded the video online which led to it going viral. It depicts the teacher being punched multiple times and her head being slammed into a desk.

“This is shocking and terrible and will not be tolerated. We have been dealing with fights and violence recently and want our community to know that this behavior is unacceptable. We will do all we can to prevent it,” stated a spokesperson for the Ector County School District.

“…We know our children are hurting and need us to address mental health challenges while we also hold them accountable for their actions. Our district will continue to address these concerns with students and families,” he added.

Although the details haven’t been released, the students who recorded the attack were disciplined, as well, sources say.

Even though videotaping the attack caused issues for administration, students are urged to make adults aware when this type of behavior occurs.
