Teen Faces Felony After Rushing Mother To Hospital Was Interrupted By Police PIT Manuever

A teen in Arkansas has been charged with a felony after an officer used a PIT maneuver on her. This was done as she was quickly trying to get her mother to a medical facility.

Tahirah Hart and her 18-year-old twin daughters were shocked at what happened in the incident. It was recorded on an officer’s dashcam.

The occurrence happened a month ago after Hart was released from the hospital after undergoing surgery.

However, a few hours after that, she began to feel ill again. Thus, she had to be taken back to the medical facility.

As their mom began to feel pain shooting up her arm during the drive, her daughters, Kenochia and Keochoa Moss sped to Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. They had been on Interstate 630, and their hazard lights had been flashing.

As officers began to pursue them, Hart told them to pull over for authorities. However, before they can do that, Arkansas State Police trooper Montae Hernandez performed a PIT Manuever, and the cars hit each other. A PIT Manuever is used when an officer’s vehicle makes a fleeing car turn to the side, making the driver lose control and stop.

Hart’s daughter could be heard yelling at officers to assist her mom, explaining that she she had just had surgery.

Kenochia was then apprehended as guns were pointed at her.

Later, handcuffs were taken off Kenochia, and she was able to get her mother to the emergency room.

On the other hand, trooper Hernandez gave her a citation for fleeing which is a felony.

On Monday, Kenochia Moss pleaded not guilty in North Little Rock district court.

She is expected to appear in court again on September 6.

In police documents, trooper Hernandez said that he performed the PIT Manuever because a lot of frequent car and pedestrian traffic close to the hospital.

Arkansas State Police guidelines on PIT Manuevers lets officers use this method when it is objectively reasonable based on what is going on.
