A 16 year-old girl in India says that she was raped by 400 men.
The teen told officials that at 13 she was married to a 33 year-old man who sexually abused her, and her in-laws beat and treated her poorly. She then fled the home to go to her father who wouldn’t accept her back.
So, she started going to a bus stop to beg for money, as she was then homeless. There, she says three men threw her into sex work. The girl, who is now two months pregnant, said that when she attempted to file a complaint, two police officers sexually assaulted her, as well.
Now, cases have been filed against 8 men, but authorities want all the offenders punished.
In 2019, there were about 88 cases of rape that occurred in India per day. In early 2021, an Indian teen was raped by a group of men for an hour after being guaranteed a COVID-19 vaccine.
