Robyn Mejia, an elementary school teacher, was a winner in a $50,000 lottery ticket scratch-off. Last month, her husband had purchased the ticket for her in order to cheer her up.
He bought the Ca$h to Go ticket from a 7-11 in Thurmont, Maryland, after his wife had a hard week.
The couple couldn’t believe that they had actually won. Thus, the husband checked again by scanning the ticket at 7-11. His brother also scanned it on his phone, utilizing the Maryland Lottery app.
Mejia never really plays the lottery. She stated that the funds will go toward purchasing a new home. The lottery ticket was placed in a safe until she traveled to Baltimore to receive her prize after she went on spring break.
“We have been saving money for a down payment on a house, thinking we would be ready by the end of the year. Now, we don’t have to wait,” Mejia expressed.
The 7-11 store will be provided with $500 for selling the ticket.
