A mother, who is also a teacher in Connecticut, was arrested after she went on vacation to Florida with her boyfriend. Her kids were left home alone.

On January 15, Kerry Lynn Caviasca was taken into custody. She was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a child and two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment.

Reports indicate that Caviasca’s former husband alerted police about his two children. Both younger than 12, were left home by themselves between Nov. 20 and Nov. 22. They had missed school and weren’t answering the phone.

The father first became alarmed after he read text messages about a boarded plane on one phone he had access to. Another text told the kids to “just eat candy.” Caviasca had also told the children to stay in the basement, so they couldn’t be seen.

After several lies about the children being left at home with her brother, Caviaca lost temporary custody of the kids. They were given to her ex-husband when she came back.

The children later confirmed that they were alone for those days with only snacks and UberEats orders.

Caviasca has been put on leave from her job in the school district as the investigation continues.
