William Bennett, a White science teacher from Louisville, Kentucky, was terminated last month after he had a fight with one of his Black students.

Bennett was fired from Marion C. Moore School in December after he was seen tussling with 16-year-old Jamir Strane.

When the Jefferson County Public Schools investigated, they found that Bennett used excessive force while holding Strane on the ground.

Additionally, a witness told police that they heard Bennett say to Strane that he was, “just another Black boy that got shot,” which had happened previously.

During an interview, Strane acknowledged that Bennett also told him, “You’re going to end up in the streets dead.”

Strane stated that the altercation began when Bennett didn’t agree with the bandana Strane was wearing as a mask.

On Wednesday, Strane’s mother sued Bennett and Jefferson County Public Schools. The lawsuit documents that Strane was “pinned to the ground and pummeled while Bennett yelled obscenities, profanity, and racial slurs.”

Because of that, the lawsuit says that Strane suffered “physical, mental, emotional stress, strain, and humiliation.”
